This is a reproduction of a jacket brought back to America by a soldier stationed at the U.S. military base in Pleiku, a city in Vietnam, in the mid-1960s.
The embroidery features a tiger on the right chest, the character "福" (fuku/good fortune) on the left chest, dragons on both sleeves, and a map of Vietnam on the back, a classic design for a Vietnam jacket.
Many vintage Vietnam jackets have rough embroidery, but this piece reproduces high-density, high-quality embroidery.
As with vintage pieces, the cuffs feature buttons modeled after old coins.

VIETNAM JACKET

Similar to the Sukajan (souvenir jacket) born in post-war Japan, the souvenir jacket that emerged during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s is commonly known as the Vietnam jacket.
Mainly made from two types of fabric: cotton twill or camouflage poncho liners, with designs embroidered using thick, matte colored threads.
