This jacket was ordered by an American soldier stationed in Vietnam in the late 1960s (1968-69) and brought back to the US.
While map patterns are common for Vietnam jackets, this dragon embroidery is extremely rare. Although several vintage dragon patterns have been identified,
none are as colorful and powerful as this one.
Both the dragon on the back and the dragons on the sleeves are depicted using multiple colored threads, indicating that highly skilled artisans created them at the time.
The character "福" (fuku) on the left chest is slightly smaller than usual, but it is reproduced using two colored threads to match the balance of the vintage original.

Similar to Sukajan jackets born in post-war Japan, souvenir jackets born during the Vietnam War from the 1960s to 1970s are commonly known as Vietnam jackets.
They are mainly made from two types of fabric: cotton twill or camouflage poncho liner, and the designs are embroidered with matte, thick colored threads.
