■BUZZ RICKSON'S × KOSHO Velour x Quilted Satin Sukajan SPECIAL EDITION 334th FTR. BOMB. SQ. CHITOSE JAPAN BR15536
![]() Model Height 175cm, Weight 62kg, wearing size L In the 1950s, around US military bases in Japan, there were many embroidery shops with excellent freehand embroidery techniques. American soldiers stationed in Japan flocked to these embroidery shops to custom-order "Sukajan" jackets. This was due to the exchange rate at the time being 1 dollar = 360 yen, which allowed soldiers to get elaborate embroidery at a very low cost. This is how Sukajan culture blossomed and flourished. When the Korean War broke out, the 334th Fighter-Bomber Squadron "Eagles" of the 4th Fighter-Bomber Wing was deployed to Iruma, Chitose, and Misawa in Japan from the early 1950s. The unit emblem of the Eagles, to which the owner "Chuck" belonged, shines on the front, but the unique flavor of a local-made item, slightly different from the official emblem, is fully utilized. The year embroidered on the left sleeve is also quite rare. The embroidery on the back depicts the cutting-edge F-86 Sabre jet, which was deployed at the time, and expresses wishes for peace in Korea, America, and Japan. A total of 39 F-86 jet aces in the entire US military shot down five or more enemy aircraft before the war ended, and 25 of those pilots came from the 4th Fighter-Bomber Wing, a prestigious unit that achieved brilliant results. The reversible side of the body is silver with colorful threads for the embroidery, which makes the Japan map and the maiko standing gracefully stand out even more. The "N" in "NAGASAKI" on the map is mistakenly changed to "H" - a charming detail from the time. <KOSHO> This Special Edition meticulously reproduces carefully selected masterpieces from the Tailor Toyo collection. Not only are the designs intricately hand-embroidered, but the acetate fabric is adjusted to be indistinguishable from vintage, and the wool ribs are knitted one by one using old-fashioned flat knitting machines. The zippers for the reversible specifications are also reproduced using the same hand-bent method as back then, by restarting fastening machines from over 50 years ago. Using the label of Kosho Shokai, the predecessor of Tailor Toyo, it evokes the heyday of vintage Sukajan. ![]() Buzz Rickson's is a military brand of Toyo Enterprise, which owns vintage American casual brands such as Sugar Cane and Sun Surf. The company's relationship with the military is old, with its predecessor, Kosho Shokai, supplying souvenir jackets (such as Sukajan) to US military bases. In 1993, they released their first flight jacket. Since then, the military wear they have successively reproduced, like Sun Surf's Hawaiian shirts and Sugar Cane's denim wear, are all perfectly crafted. ![]() ![]() ![]()
